How to change golf club grip

Golf clubs are the basic equipment used by the golfer. Golf clubs are used by golfers for powerful shots. Worn and old grips can cause slipping and this will lead to errant shots.

A golfer who plays golf daily should change his golf club grip two or three times a year whereas golfer who don’t get much time for playing golf on regular basis and plays golf only once a week should change his golf club grip once a year.

Changing your golf grips can be fun and exciting experience if you know how it is done. And if you don’t know how to carry out this process then you definitely will face frustration and problems. This is the reason why most of the golfers pay a lot of money to professionals for this work. If you are willing to pay some attention and learn about changing the golf club grips then you definitely will save a large amount of money each year. For changing golf club grips you have to go through following process

  1. Pull of the grip slowly and cut it off if necessary. You may require a knife or scissor if it is needed. Remove the tape contents gently with the help of hand or any utility like knife.
  2. Use some solvent on a rag and clean a rag where grip and tape used to be. Now in order to dry the shaft, place it in sunlight for some time.
  3. Next step which you have to carry out is to put the middle of the shaft into a vise shaft holder. Main function of this holder is to hold the club gently. This will tighten the club for a strong hold.
  4. Now with the help of vernier caliper or some other scale measure the length of the grip. Take the new grip in one hand and align the butt of the new grip with the end of the shaft. Mark the shaft with some pen or pencil where other side of the grip ends.
  5. Take a piece of double sided scotch tape and start pasting it from the mark to the butt of your golf club.
  6. Now cut the tape as it reaches the end of the club. Roll the end of the tape by overlapping it on itself.
  7. Your next step is to take the new grip which is made up of some rubber material. Now attach its one end by placing a golf tee into the hole at its end.
  8. Pour some solvent into the grip so that it takes the tackiness of the scotch tape without mixing with it.
  9. Now place your thump at the open end of the grip and shake it well so that solvent may spread into the interior of the grip effectively.
  10. It’s better to spray some solvent at the taped potion of the shaft also.
  11. Take out the golf tee from the end of the rubber grip and then slide the rubber on to the shaft. Liquid solvent will allow you to slide the grip easily. If you wait enough for it then liquid may dry making it difficult for you to slide the grip over the tape. If it becomes difficult, use some more solvent over the tape.
  12. Now remove the golf club from shaft holder.
  13. Hold the club in your hands and adjust the grip according to your requirements. Make sure that there is no twist in rubber grip over the handle.
  14. Press the grip with your hands gently from up to down to fix it.
  15. Let the grip dry for about ten hours and then it would be ready for taking nice and powerful golf shots.
